The Sewing Room Bonus Pack

The Sewing Room Bonus Pack
A bonus pack. These are two pages I made for The Sewing Room which I didn’t include in the last kit. I initially had other plans for it before the thought that I had to include even just one piece of jewelry in the line came to me. One of my grannies loved early 1900 pieces of jewelry SO much that each time I see some of the pieces she left behind to my mother, I can’t help but remember her! (I have in my possession the bracelet she was wearing when she died. That is very precious to me.) I knew I had to release these two pages I’ve been holding on to together with a piece of jewelry I must design. This Bonus Kit contains two sheets, 1 velvet ribbon and bow and yes, the colorful gold pendant with birthstones I made just for my maternal granny. Enjoy.

I’ve been tagged by Kimberly who makes such wonderful freebies (visit her site and download her stuff!). Here are six things about me that most of those visiting THIS blog wouldn’t know. One. I am a trad scrapper for close to 10 years now and stubbornly stayed away fom digital scrapping because I believed it would feel like work for me – I work creatively with computers on a daily basis. It was a strong bias I had and I’ve been proven wrong.

Main Kit: Echoes of Asia by Jessica Sprangue

Two . My first digitally scrapped page was done May of 2007 – no kidding. I have digitally scrapped a total of 25 pages to date. I received very encouraging feedback from a 20-page album I made around mid-August of 2007 and it is because of it that I begun to seriously consider not just digitally scrapping but designing my own kits.

Three. I released my first digital kit last August 31 - barely a month ago. I have two design lines to date: Goodbye to Summer I and II (also called Colors at Dusk) and the current My Granny’s Place line (The Reading Room, The Receiving Room and the Sewing Room). I spend an average of 14-18 hours working on a computer everyday. This includes the 3-5 hours minimum doing freebies for this blog. Daily. I take those precious 3-5 hours away from rest and sleep. This is the reason why comments from those who download my work means much to me.

I’m deeply touched…

Four. I love reading the emails sent to me by people who download my work. I love. I cannot stress it any stronger. It brings me great joy. Sometimes I shed tears of joy too. Well most of the time because the emails all feel heartfelt and makes me want to hug senders thousands of miles away. It is through this that I have met very interesting, creative and loving people. I wish that if people find the time to download and scrap with my files, they could spare a few seconds as well to post their thanks or even a minute or three to write me something…

Five. I am a very detailed traditional scrapbooker. I plan, scrutinize and think over (OK, agonize is a more apt term) every element in my layout several times before I paste anything. It’s no different with digital scrapping or creating kits. I was expecting it to be a lot easier (less agony, LOL) being digital and all… but I found out it is not and will never be so.

Six. I spend hours just thinking about the design slant of every kit as well as the color palette before I even face the computer. I plan to design kits to reflect the things and people I deeply care about or I love. It will never be just a design project for me. My kits will always be a statement, a story or a reflection of who I am. That is a fact… and a promise.

Kimberly? I’m so sorry if I can’t tag four bloggers but just one (I’ve not been into digi-blogging that long enough to know other designers except two – who both are on top of my fav list.) I want to tag MiYon but I believe she had been tagged already (besides she had been releasing such great freebies her website had been suspended when she exceeded her bandwidth – she’s that good and her freebies are that great!). But I believe Melanie hadn’t been tagged yet and if you haven’t been to her site to read her blog, see her layouts or yes, download her freebies (she has archived them so easy for you!) it’s your loss… She does great work too! So Melanie, Hon, I’m tagging you ((hugs!))

Finally (I know this is turning out to be my longest post ever, I’m sorry…) I have something wonderful coming your way soon before I release the last of My Granny’s Place (for now…) I enjoyed doing it so much… And judging by our “short” history, the more I enjoy doing my kits, the more fun you have with them. This time, I had a blast… so keep visiting and watch out for the next post!

Your creations are so beautiful. This particular series reminds me so much of my own grandmother. Warm, comforting fabrics that spell Love. Sitting on her sofa, being hugged into the fabric of her dress, sitting on her lap. Thank you so much for all of them — the kit and the memories :-)

Another absolutely stunning piece of art! Everything is so very realistic in every particular, yet so ethereal and dreamy.
Taste and perfume of good old times. And of my own granny. I miss her.
    Thank you Mabelle.

I just discovered your site. Am I the only one unable to download? When I click on the “here”, I get a File-Upload page that never comes up with a link that can be clicked. Any suggestions?

    Thank you!

Thank you so much for this beautiful series of “rooms.” I never had a grandma so I don’t know if she would have had rooms like these or not. Your grandma sounds like a very fine person.

You don’t know how much I appreciate your talent. I have very little talent and it is hard for me to learn anything new. It took me eight years to learn to crochet and sometimes I cry . Your work is beautiful thank you

This add on is such an incredible and beautiful treat, as I too missed the first kit! I never had a grandma, or grandpa, or aunts, uncles or cousins to boot. My parents left Russia after the war, and I have relatives there, but never ever met one. All of you should treasure your families, you have no idea how lucky you all are – I envy you all! I did grow up in an old house though, and I love them to this day! I loved playing with the treasures my mom had in her bedroom, the trinkets, and the lace curtains and furnishings were beautiful. I have to change my mind to the dining room though, as that’s where our wonderful home cooked meals, and Christmas turkey dinners were served – lights turned dim and candles burning , the incredible aroma, the street lights sparkling on the snow outside, the tree sparkling in the corner…. Those are my precious memories. Thank you Mabelle, I still have beautiful memories to treasure too, and thinking about them right now is something I seldom do – thank you for that!!! Hugs!

Wow love your first layout! It is hard to believe that you’ve only been designing since the end of Aug! Your work is gorgeous. This add on is stunning; the one page reminds me of the sunsets I use to watch overlooking the lake at granny’s summer cottage. Oh how I miss those days; the entire family would meet for the weekend. There would be lots of food, singing and dancing! Thank you so much for this add on.

Well, I got this one anyway…..
My grandma was a seamstress/furrier too and I remember her sitting by her old Singer sewing machine, having all those interesting clothings and fur all over her kitchen.
As I get older it was not always so fun to have cloths my grandma made. They were unique, but as a teenagers I didn’t want to stick out from the crowd….LOL

    Hugs
